Web Accessibility Services

I help US eCommerce businesses find what is failing on their websites, fix it at the source, and keep it fixed. Every engagement is led personally by me — a participant in the W3C Accessibility Guidelines Working Group, DHS Trusted Tester and NVDA Expert certified — and backed by EcomBack, a court-approved accessibility provider. Over 8,000 websites made accessible.

Automated scanners catch roughly a third of WCAG failures. The rest — keyboard traps, focus order, form labelling, screen reader behaviour — only surface under manual testing with real assistive technology. That is what I do.

Accessibility Audits

A full manual evaluation of your site against WCAG 2.2 Level AA, the standard US courts reference in ADA website cases and the basis for Section 508 and the European Accessibility Act.

Every audit covers:

  • Keyboard-only navigation across all interactive elements and user flows
  • Screen reader testing with NVDA and VoiceOver on real page states
  • Colour contrast measured against SC 1.4.3 (4.5:1 body text, 3:1 large text)
  • Form labelling, error identification and recovery (SC 3.3.1, SC 3.3.2)
  • Focus visibility and focus order (SC 2.4.7, SC 2.4.3)
  • Media alternatives — captions, transcripts, audio description (SC 1.2.x)
  • Dynamic content, modals, carousels and custom widgets against ARIA patterns

You receive findings mapped to individual success criteria, each with the failing element, the user impact, and the specific code change required. Not a score — a work list your developers can act on.

Remediation and Development

Findings without fixes are just a longer to-do list. I work directly with your product, design and engineering teams to correct issues at the source rather than layering patches on top.

That means fixing the component, not the page — so the same defect stops reappearing across every template that uses it. Where your team prefers to implement internally, I provide the specifications and review the work before it ships.

On overlays and accessibility widgets

I do not install them, and I advise against relying on them. Overlay products have been named in US ADA litigation rather than preventing it. They alter the page at runtime without fixing the underlying markup, and screen reader users frequently report they make sites harder to use. Remediation means changing your code.

Compliance and Standards

Different obligations apply depending on where you sell and who you sell to:

  • ADA (US) — Titles II and III, the basis for most US website accessibility litigation
  • Section 508 — required for US federal agencies and their contractors
  • WCAG 2.1 / 2.2 AA — the technical standard the above are measured against
  • European Accessibility Act — enforceable since June 2025 for products and services sold into the EU, including eCommerce

I map your obligations to the specific standard that applies, so you are not paying to meet requirements that do not apply to your market.

I am not an attorney and I do not provide legal advice. For litigation or regulatory exposure, consult qualified counsel — I work alongside your legal team and supply the technical evidence they need.

Documentation and Reporting

Compliance you cannot evidence is compliance you cannot defend.

  • VPAT / Accessibility Conformance Report — the document enterprise procurement and government buyers ask for before they will contract with you
  • Audit reports mapped criterion by criterion, with severity and remediation status
  • Accessibility statements that describe your actual conformance level honestly
  • Remediation records showing what was fixed, when, and by whom

This documentation regularly unblocks enterprise deals. Buyers increasingly require a VPAT before procurement will proceed.

User Testing and Validation

Conformance and usability are not the same thing. A page can satisfy every success criterion and still be painful to use with a screen reader.

Through EcomBack I run validation with people who use assistive technology daily — screen reader users, keyboard-only users, users with low vision. They find the problems that checklists do not: the form that technically has labels but reads in a confusing order, the modal that traps focus in a way no automated tool flags.

Training and Consulting

The goal is that you stop needing me.

  • Team workshops for developers, designers and content editors, tailored to your stack
  • Design system reviews so accessibility is built into components once, not retrofitted per page
  • Content editor guidance — alt text, heading structure, link text, document accessibility
  • Ongoing advisory as standards evolve and your product changes

Teams that build accessibility into their workflow stop generating new violations. That is a far cheaper position than auditing the same site every year.

How engagements work

1. Assess

Manual audit against WCAG 2.2 AA. You learn exactly what is failing and what it means for your users and your risk.

2. Prioritise

A remediation roadmap ordered by user impact and legal exposure, not by what is easiest to fix.

3. Remediate

Fixes implemented at component level, by your team or with me directly, then verified.

4. Sustain

Training, documentation and process so the work holds after the engagement ends.

Why work with me

  • W3C Accessibility Guidelines Working Group — participant in the group that authors WCAG
  • DHS Trusted Tester — the US Department of Homeland Security certification for Section 508 manual testing
  • IAAP Organizational Member — International Association of Accessibility Professionals
  • NVDA Expert Certified — NV Access
  • Partner at EcomBack, a court-approved accessibility provider
  • 8,000+ websites made accessible · 1,000+ businesses · 20+ countries · 10+ years

Most vendors in this space sell automated scans. Manual testing certification is uncommon, and it is the part that determines whether your site actually works for the people it is failing today.

Common questions

How long does an audit take?

Depends on site size and template count. A focused eCommerce audit typically runs one to three weeks from kickoff to report.

Can you guarantee we will not be sued?

No, and you should be sceptical of anyone who says otherwise. Conformance with WCAG 2.2 AA substantially reduces risk and gives you a documented, defensible position — but no vendor can guarantee litigation outcomes.

Do you work with Shopify, WooCommerce and Magento?

Yes. Platform themes carry recurring, predictable failures — those are usually the fastest meaningful wins.

We already run an automated scanner. Is that enough?

No. Automated tools reliably detect roughly 30% of WCAG failures. Keyboard traps, focus order, screen reader behaviour and meaningful alt text all require manual evaluation.

What is a VPAT and do we need one?

A Voluntary Product Accessibility Template documents your conformance for buyers. If you sell to enterprise, government or education, you will eventually be asked for one.

Ready to find out where you stand?

Start with an audit. You will know exactly what is failing, what it means, and what it takes to fix.
